In 2018, twelve years after my father passed away, I discovered his old Super 8 footage, filmed during his military service. He had been stationed in Novosibirsk, Russia, where he was training as a fighter pilot. Watching the films, I was struck by the contrast between the gravity of their purpose and the lightness of their youth. I combined the footage with a song I listened to repeatedly during that time. Being the same age as my father was in those films, I found myself searching for connections between our experiences and the emotions we might have shared.
